Michael Caras

Michael is a Basement Finishing Advisor with Total Basement Finishing, a Blackdog Affiliate. His professional background uniquely combines building science and finance. Before joining Blackdog, Michael spent time as a Home Energy Advisor, helping homeowners identify efficiency improvements and guiding them through implementation. He also brings 10 years of experience in the residential mortgage industry, giving him a well-rounded  understanding of both the physical and financial sides of home construction projects.

Michael was drawn to Blackdog's commitment to its core values, especially fostering a healthy work/life balance and encouraging continuous improvement. He values the company's integrity and dedication to delivering the best solutions for every client, utilizing superior products and craftsmanship to ensure every project meets the highest standard. Michael enjoys working with homeowners to create finished basements that elevate their homes' comfort, functionality, and value. He believes in thoughtful design paired with durable, high-performance products - a combination that helps families make the most of their lower-level spaces.

Outside of work, Michael maintains a busy and active lifestyle. He is an avid pickleball player and coach, enjoys mountain biking and snowboarding, and is deeply involved in his community. He fosters dogs for Sweet Paws Rescue, serves on the Opportunity Works board of directors, and actively fundraises and raises awareness to combat veteran suicide.
