Did you know? Types of Basements

Daylight or Walkout Basement:  If your home is on a hill or slope, it is possible that you have a daylight basement. In this type of basement part of the floor is above ground, with a doorway to the outside. It is a more complex and modern design because of the uneven foundations. Daylight basements also allow for full-size windows to be installed. This creates awesome natural light and ventilation and a more enjoyable living area. This also allows for basement bedrooms, because in many cases it is only legal to have a basement bedroom if there is an outside escape.

Look-out Basement:  If your basement has many windows it is possible that you have a lookout basement. In a look-out basement, the basement walls extend above ground level so that all basement windows are above ground. This is great for letting in tons of natural light.

Walk-up Basement: If you enter your basement outside by walking down stairs it is likely that you have a walk-up basement. A walk-up basement has an exterior stairwell that leads to the basement, usually covered by bulk-head doors.
