Make a List!

Finishing a basement isn’t free. But how much does a finished basement cost? 30k? 100k? Finished basements significantly vary in price. The first thing you must do, even before you start thinking about working on your basement, is determine your budget.

Once you’ve decided how much you’d like to spend (think about added value to your home, what other houses in your neighborhood are doing, etc.), it’s time to make a list of your wants and needs.

Start with the big questions first- How big do you want your space to be? Do you want to finish the entire basement, or just a section? Is your basement going to be open concept, or do you want different rooms? What about windows? Beyond the required egress window, how much natural light are you looking for? Do you want a bathroom? A kitchen?

Once these big things have been decided, think about how you’d like everything to look- contemporary and clean? Rustic? Traditional?

Next, go through your list and decide what is most important to you. Is a tiled shower an essential or an extra? If you’re just going to use your basement shower for your dog… maybe it’s an extra.

Take some time to really think about what is important to you. When you call Total Basement Finishing to plan your finished basement, you’ll know exactly what you need and you’ll have a clear idea of what you want.
